I’m so excited to share more about this Hunger Games styled shoot that I collaborated on in January! It featured over on Burnett’s Boards today, so head on over and take a look, then pop back over for more awesome photos here.
Right after the second Hunger Games movie came out, and after tagging along on a fabulous styled shoot with Cassie, I started thinking of what I could do to challenge myself creatively during the slow winter months.
I was instantly drawn to the over-the-top style of the Capitol Citizens of Panem and thought it would make a fabulous basis for a styled wedding shoot. I scoured Pinterest to make sure that my idea hadn’t already been done a million times before and found that most of the Hunger Games shoots focused on Katniss and Peeta, whether a vision of what their wedding would be like in District 12, or what kind of wedding the Capitol might throw for them.
But no one else had looked to create a wedding for a prominent Capitol Citizen, and just like that, my creative juices were flowing!
We decided on a rich, vibrant color palette and mixed together art deco lines and victorian details to bring to life our imagined Capitol Style.
Early on, we fell in love with wedding dress designer Ian Stuart and partnered with D’Anelli Bridal to use two of Ian’s fabulous, over the top dresses. Katie from The Roaring Artist provided the colorful and unique jewelry, Susan from Kitty Mae Millinery contributed the headpieces, and Denver Tux added the lapel-less white tux.
We partnered with Lilli from Bella Calla to provide the modern and colorful florals and we got furniture from Charming Chairs, Alexan Events, and Cherished Vintage Rental. Daniela from Juliana’s Bakery and Cakery provided the golden truffles and a bit of shopping and crafting on our part filled in the details.
We shot 75% of the shoot at The Studio – Denver, which provided the perfect neutral backdrop for us to create our tablescape and lounging station. The natural light in the Studio is seriously gorgeous. For the 2nd part of the shoot we traveled to Cheeseman Park, taking advantage of the columns and mountain views to really play up the feeling of being a citizen in the Capitol of Panem (after all, most believe that the capitol is in the Rocky Mountains, so the park was perfect!)
A big thanks to our models, Kelly and Evan, my wife and wonderful stylist and assistant for the day, Heather, and to Sharee from Shareeography who shot alongside of me and provided some amazing wide angle shots to compliment my close-in shooting style!
While I was shooting the photo on the right, Sharee grabbed the wide angle shot on the left–love it!
Sharee is also responsible for the next two fabulous wide angle shots as well!
