Where is Boettcher Mansion Located?
Boettcher Mansion is located up Lookout Mountain and not far off of I-70. The official address is 900 Colorow Rd, Golden, CO 80401.
The Mansion is popular with couples because its located less than an hour outside of Denver, and therefore easily accessible for guests. There are also ample hotels in different price points available for guests to stay in that aren’t super far away.
From their site:
Built in 1917 as a summer home and seasonal hunting lodge for Charles Boettcher, the former “Lorraine Lodge” was donated to Jefferson County in the 1970s for public use and enjoyment. In 1984, the Arts and Crafts estate was listed on the National Register of Historic Places and now serves as Jefferson County Colorado’s premier historic events venue.
What is the overall feel of Boettcher Mansion?
The mansion is historic and has a bit of a hunting lodge feel to it with its dark beams, stone walls, and wood floors. Some of the rooms are open and let in more light, while others are smaller and you feel the history in the tight turns and low ceilings.
The property underwent a major renovation for it’s getting ready spaces in 2025 and the results preserve the charm, while brightening things up a bit.
The pine forests around Boettcher Mansion are the highlight of the property and are an awesome backdrop for portraits.

Getting Ready at Boettcher Mansion
The biggest thing to take into account when planning your getting ready timeline, is the venue’s strict “no early entrance” policy for couples and vendors alike (as of this writing that was 2:00pm). That means that it most likely makes sense to get your hair and make up done off-site and plan to arrive for final touches and getting dressed.
There are two main getting ready spaces at the mansion, one of the first floor and one on the second. Both boast multiple connected rooms so you have a little space to spread out and get ready with your friends and family. There is good lighting in both spaces and there are creative ways to photograph in each. One thing to note about the first floor getting ready space, is that it overlooks the cocktail hour patio space, which means that your catering vendor may be right outside your window setting up.
The space is best when you can allow some window light, so I’ll help guide you in to the best spots that preserve your privicy.

Pro Tips for Getting Married at Boettcher Mansion
Consider the sun. Many ceremonies take place on the stone patio of the Mansion with views of the forest behind. It’s a gorgeous setting, but the angle of the setting sun make lighting at this spot a photographic challenge. Take a look at Google Earth and plan your ceremony for a time when the sun is lower in the sky to prevent harsh shadows and squinting at the alter. Better yet, orient your ceremony to take advantage of the later afternoon backlight. And if you need help pinpointing the sun during your ceremony time, let me know–I can help!
Hit up the lookout point. There is a gorgeous lookout point across the road from the mountain, along with a nature center. The lookout offers spectacular views, but it’s a bit bright early in the day. Think about sneaking away for sunset portraits at this spot.
Consider adding on the market lights. The venue offers the option to add market lights to the outdoor patio. The lights can be a great way to make the patio feel “special” for your wedding ceremony and for your reception. There is a cost for adding the lights though, so make sure you check in with the venue coordinator.
