Devil’s Thumb Ranch Resort & Spa Weddings

Updated March 18, 2021

Where is Devil’s Thumb Ranch Located?

Devil’s Thumb Ranch is located in Tabernash, Colorado, a small area just a few miles beyond Winter Park. Set off the highway, the Ranch Resort & Spa feels very tucked away. But that’s part of the appeal.  Their tagline is “True Wonder. Real Adventure. Pure Colorado.”

What is the overall feel of weddings at Devil’s Thumb Ranch?

From their site:

At Devil’s Thumb Ranch we offer experiences that embrace the pioneering spirit of the early homesteaders while honoring the grand landscape that surrounds us. Of course, such a luxurious escape would be incomplete without refined modern comforts like our renowned spa, acclaimed restaurants, plush accommodations and a unique approach to sustainability that preserves this stunning place for future generations. Here, guests are invited to participate in real, authentic ranch activities from Nordic skiing to horseback riding, cattle driving, fly fishing and exploring breathtaking Colorado, on over 6,000 acres (and millions of wilderness acres) that surrounds us. Or to simply unplug from everyday life, escape from the Denver heat, curl up with a good book, and reconnect with the people who matter most. It is, dare we say, an authentic Colorado ranch experience you simply can’t find anywhere else. We invite you to explore what it’s all about.

The overall vibe is upscale Colorado, yet relaxed and cozy.  Yes, as a resort and spa, it has its amenities, but the lodge is also full of nooks and crannies with the most comfortable leather furniture you could imagine, huge stone fireplaces, and classic lodge style.

What season should I get married at Devil’s Thumb Ranch?

This venue is beautiful in both winter and summer and the perfect mountain getaway for guests traveling in from out of town.  All of the ceremony spots feature mountain views of the Continental Divide and feel intimate and private.  In the winter you can host an outdoor, indoor, or indoor/ outdoor ceremony so you can choose the experience for your guests. This venue is perfect for an intimate, elegant, cozy wedding (or an elopement!) with just the right amount of rustic.

In the winter cross country ski and snowshoeing trails will be open for your guest to explore and in the summer, walking, biking, and hiking trails are available.

Rental Spaces for Devil’s Thumb Ranch Weddings

There are several rentable spaces at Devil’s Thumb Ranch for your reception, including three ceremony options. The Ranch thrives on creating memorable weekend events for you and your guests that takes advantage of multiple spaces and amenities on the property.

Broad Axe Barn

Broad Axe Barn is the reception space located closest to the Main Lodge. It can host up to 160 people, but can also be used for a smaller, intimate ceremony and reception celebration. The space features large windows, high beams made from a Civil War era ban, and floor to ceiling sliding barn doors that creates a truly indoor/ outdoor space. The adjacent patio houses several firepits and is strung with romantic market lights.

High Lonesome Barn and Loft

This barn space is also from the Civil War era and was moved here piece by piece from Ohio. It includes a huge wall of windows that overlooks the Continental Divide. It can host up to 250 people with an extra 100 people in the loft. It’s a popular reception space that pairs well with rental of the High Lonesome Lodge. The Lodge itself features 35 guest rooms for your wedding guests. If you rent the entire loft, your guests will also have access to the building fire pit and a personal concierge.

Timber House

I love the Timber House and it’s multiple uses. It’s perfect for intimate wedding celebrations and can be used for cocktail hours or small receptions. As a space you can easily pair it with a Broad Axe Barn ceremony or reception, or use it as your reception space after your outdoor ceremony at the High Lonesome Barn ceremony space. In the winter it’s super cozy.

The Timber House is adjacent to the Broad Axe Barn outdoor patio with market lights and firepits and is the perfect place to take in the views of sunset and alpenglow over the Continental Divide.

Yager House

This space is ideal for small microwedding receptions or cocktail hours. It holds about 40 people for a sit down dinner and has both an indoor space and an outdoor patio space. It’s very close to the outdoor Broad Axe Barn ceremony space.

Broad Axe Barn Ceremony Space

This ceremony space is perhaps the most iconic of the ceremony spaces at Devil’s Thumb Ranch. It features a stone aisle, platform, and wooden ceremony arch that mirrors the mountain scenery. The arch can be beautifully decorated to fit your wedding decor ideas.

High Lonesome Lodge Ceremony Space

This ceremony spot is located above the High Lonesome Lodge and features amazing views of Devil’s Thumb. It’s the perfect spot for intimate ceremonies and small weddings. You can even host a small cocktail hour in the space post-ceremony.
