Guanella Pass Engagement | Jessica and Mike

Engagement sessions in the mountains, especially in late Summer/ early Fall, are some of my favorites. There is just something so refreshing about escaping to the mountains for a few hours–breathing in the fresh air, needing a jacket by sunset, and really embracing one of the most awesome things in Colorado: the Rocky Mountain views.

A few weeks ago I met up with Jessica and Mike for their Guanella Pass Engagement session and boy did it meet my expectations.  Aside from getting to hang out with two really awesome people for the afternoon, it felt so good to stretch my creative legs in the midst of a fantastically crazy wedding season.

We started their session at their house, which they recently bought together and have put a ton of sweat equity into already.  We always want our couples to choose locations for engagements based on a place that means something to them and starting at a house that is the basis of a solid relationship is great idea.

Then we jumped in the cars to head into the mountains.  First we stopped in Georgetown to take advantage of the historic downtown.  We even had a conversation with a local who was out walking his dogs.

Next we headed up Guanella pass, stopping along the way to grab a few shots with the Aspens, then heading all the way up to the summit and the Mt. Bierstadt trail head where we took in the scenic views and walkways.  The wildfires in Washington gave us hazy, soft light to play with, and enhanced how amazing Jessica and Mike looked against the Colorado scenery.

On the way back down the mountain we just had to stop at a rock scramble that had caught my eye on the drive up.  We were pushing sunset by this point, but I’m so glad we took the time to explore.  I can’t wait to get my film back and share even more awesomeness from this session.
