Joshua Tree Retreat Center Engagement | Film Friday

One of my business goals over the past year or so is to try to shoot one roll of medium format film at every wedding. I’m enjoying the process of shooting medium format film so far, focusing on using the camera for portraits alongside of my digital camera.

Your can follow along with my results on Film Fridays.

Its been over a month since I got back from Heck Yeah Photo Camp in the California desert, just outside of Joshua Tree National Park.

The next Heck Yeah Photo camp is happening in August and while I won’t be attending this year (which sucks because the lineup of speakers looks phenomenal), I definitely have hopes to attend in 2017! In fact, I would love to have a Joshua Tree Retreat Center Engagement become a yearly thing.  Throw in a wedding or two in Palm Springs and an elopement in Joshua Tree National Park and I would be a very happy camper.

As a throw back to the amazing-ness that is the California desert, I’m sharing some of my favorite film images from the Heck Yeah styled engagement sessions.  I actually shot quite a bit of film at Heck Yeah, so I’ll be sharing much more in the coming weeks, but here’s to a good start!

These were all shot with my Pentax 645 and one of my two favorite film stocks, Portra 800.

  3. Oh man… all you film shooters are really making me miss my film and darkroom days… going to have to pull out my old minolta one of these days… Beautiful photos!!! This might sound funny, but I’m obsessed with even the quality of the dirt under the photo of the shoes!! Gorgeous!

  4. LOVE! The colors are so vibrant, and the connection you catpured is beautiful! Rock out with the Pentax, too!
