Mitchell Lake Engagement | Lia and Nick

couple cuddles in orange fall foliage during fall engagement hike by Boulder engagement photographer Jennie Crate

I loved my time spent on the trail with Lia and Nick so much. These two are getting married this fall, but they wanted to capitalize on the aspen color last fall for their engagement photos. We chose Brainard Lake Recreation area for their session and decided to do the hike out to Mitchell Lake with their two dogs, Zazie and Enzo.

It was lovely hearing about their adventures at camp (where they met) and learning all the bits about their personalities that make them a perfect match for each other. Truly, the way they interact with each other is so natural and comfortable, that you just know its right.

We started the session in a small grove of aspens just outside of the recreation area, before hitting the trail to Mitchell Lake. Mitchell Lake is an easy, short hike, that is perfect for engagement sessions. Along the way we played in the pine trees and chased the bright Colorado sun down the trail. When we got to Mitchell Lake the wind was whipping up something fierce, so we retreated behind the treeline and played in the late afternoon light.

I just adore the photos we captured in this spot, as we found some amazing red ground cover that complimented Lia’s amazing maroon skirt and made the backdrop of a beautiful family portrait. We braved the wind for the those final moments of sunlight before it dropped behind the peaks.

On the way back to the cars, we stopped for a final few shots at Brainard Lake, which was the perfect way to wrap up a beautiful day together.

I can’t wait to celebrate with the two of your on top of a mountain in September! Cheers!
