Vendor Feature | Hourglass Productions | Lauren Smith

Earlier this year I published a rundown of some of my favorite Colorado Wedding Vendors. But in case the preview left you wanting to know more about these amazing women (yes, all the vendors on my list are women), I’m taking the time to do some more in depth introductions to these talents.

How long have you been in business?
Technically 2013, but we only had one wedding we did for free that year. 2014 was our first full year of weddings.

What made you start Hourglass Productions?
I got married in Denver in 2012 and had a frustrating wedding planning experience here, so I decided to start my own company to make it better (less frustrating) and do what I love!

What is your favorite part of owning your own business?
Referring and working with vendors I LOVE! I realize that sometimes clients will have already hired a photographer or DJ or cake maker, but being able to refer the vendors I know work hard and love their business and weddings as much as we do is the absolute best.  Our BEST weddings are the ones where the clients hire a huge chunk of vendors we sent their way.  Things are always so flawless!

Who is your ideal client? Who inspires you in your design?
Our ideal clients are those that are very into doing what they want to do and not what blogs, magazines, family, or others tell them to do. They have a distinct vision of their wedding day, decor, and want to have a super fun party for everyone that is attending.  They want to focus on the celebration!  They value inventive and delicious food, including amazing desserts.  Think ice cream sandwiches or macaron cakes for dessert! I really love looking to Junebug Weddings for awesome new trendy wedding things and Guerdy Abraira of Ocean Flowers & Events out of Miami, Florida.  Guerdy Abraira designs such classic events that are so on point!

Describe the process of working with you.  How would a couple interact with you from start to finish?
All couples we work with have a consultation with me first, and typically get me as their Lead Planner for their wedding day.  In certain circumstances, if we happen to take on another awesome client, then they would get my main girl, Molly (who has been with me since that first wedding in 2013!) as their planner.  We have very structured packages for each wedding package and always have open email communication.  As I like to tell clients: “No matter when they hire me, I don’t want to wait to hear from you until two months before your wedding.  PLEASE ask us questions!” We always want to make sure we represent our client’s wants and needs, not ours or anyone else’s.

What trends are inspiring to you right now?
#1 is dressed up llamas at your wedding.  I think its so fun and adorable! I actually reall ylike the new trend of having bridesmaids wear white and the bride wearing some different pop of color dress.  I think its such a fabulous way to make the bride stand out.

What is your favorite flavor of ice cream?
Pretty much any flavor.  Cookies & Cream is my jam though!

Where would you most like to travel?
Greece, I’m dying to visit Greece!
