Why get married at Woodlands in Morrison

This new venue on 52 acres of property in Morrison, CO is the perfect mix of modern and Colorado rustic. From the stunning white barn for the receptions, to the plethora of trees behind the ceremony site, you’ll feel like you’re in a little bit of a Colorado OASIS for your wedding.

Woodlands is located 8884 US Hwy 285, Morrison, CO 80465

From their site:

Woodlands is a husband and wife owned and operated wedding venue for all types of wedding celebrations and formal corporate events. Located on 52 acres in Morrison Colorado, only 30 minutes from downtown Denver, in the beautiful foothills of the Rocky Mountains. An authentically small business where the owner’s are with you for every step along the way to ensure that you have the best day ever! We care so much for our couples and are able to offer a unique and personal couple experience.

The space can hold up to 200 guests, so it’s a great options for large mountain weddings.

What is the overall feel of Woodlands?

I love the general feel of seclusion here, even though you’re not far from Denver. There are evergreens all over the property, as well as two very new buildings with great light (a getting ready cabin and the main barn). The owners have even taken the time to design a great outdoor game area for cocktail hour.

Where do we get ready for our Woodlands wedding?

There are two getting ready spaces on the property and they both have their perks, though one is definitely designed more masculine and one more feminine. The space in the main barn has a pool table and some couches, which makes it feel more masculine, but what it also has is an amazing dark blue wall and fabulous window light right by it.

The other getting ready space is much more open, with couches, furniture, a bathroom, and a wall of mirrors and lights. Its definitely the best space for large groups who need to spread out.

What is the ceremony space like at Woodlands?

The ceremony space is adjacent to the main reception barn and has a lovely patio. The view overlooking the alter is a row of evergreens. If you choose to, you can have yourself and your wedding party enter the space through two giant barn doors that are very pretty, or you can enter from around the corner (or you can split it and do both!). You can add whatever decor you want to your alter to frame up your central ceremony point.

What is the reception space like at Woodlands?

The reception space is large, clean, and bright, with tall ceilings and great side window light. Plus the barn doors can be opened to let in air and light throughout the night.

There is room to seat up to 200 guests for dinner and can still accommodate an area for dancing and toasts without feeling crowded. The supporting pillars are minimal, giving the space a very open and airy feel.

Pro Tips for Getting Married at Woodlands

There is a path behind the ceremony site that leads down to a wooded area that is good for first looks. But the path is steep! So be prepared to take a longer way down, or take it slow with help.

There aren’t a ton of trees around the main getting ready cabin, though there is a nice backyard garden in the summer that will grown and expand as the venue gets more established. It is pretty sunny, though, so if you’re looking for shade, you’ll have to retreat to the nearby evergreen area mentioned above.

There are endless locations to take photos on the property. At the bottom of the mountain, where the main restaurant and ski school are located, there are beautiful groves of evergreen trees. And at the top of the mountain, you’re right in the basin of the mountains which features spectacular views.

Leave time for sunset photos. There are some pretty rocks that look amazing when the sun is setting, so make sure you leave time to sneak out for those golden glow photos!

Remember you’re at altitude. If you’re planning a wedding in the Colorado mountains, make sure to check out my guide for getting married at altitude.

Your event rental spans from 12:00noon to 11:00pm, but guests have to be out by 10:00, due to noise ordinances.

The venue requires that you work with a planner, but they do have options to hire an onsite planner if that feels like more of your style.
