2021 Year in Review

And so closes my busiest wedding season to date. 2021 saw weddings come back with a bang (and included several reschedules from 2020). And while we’re not out of the woods with COVID yet, 2022 is looking to be even bigger this year for weddings than 2021.

2022 will be my 10th wedding season and it feels a bit surreal to think back to where I started 10 years ago.

Business growth for me has been slow and mostly steady over those 10 years. I was not one of those businesses that skyrocketed to super successful in the first couple of years. I worked one or two jobs at the same time I worked on my business. I started a family. I moved a few times, making commuting to work a bigger and bigger part of my daily routine. I served my clients well, but it wasn’t a full-time wedding schedule by any means.

Then, 3.5 years ago, I took a major leap and left my full time job to focus on photography full time. I wasn’t sure it was going to be sustainable for our family. I wasn’t sure I would be able to bring in the income I needed. But, what it did, was give me the time to really work on my business with the hope of growth in mind.

I put in countless hours working on the back end of business, including a complete move of my site to a new host and platform and tons of updated content. Did I know that what I was doing was going to pay off? Certainly not (in fact, at times I was super frustrated with how hard I was working on my business and how little the work seemed to actually be paying off…). But one thing I am, is persistent. Especially when it involves something that I really love.

Then suddenly, in 2021, all those hours of work and years of plugging away suddenly started to show results. As I mentioned at the start of this post, 2021 was my busiest year of business yet, despite coming off one of the worst years in business because of the pandemic.

Does that mean I have it all figured out for 2022?

Certainly not. There is always more work to do. More balance to find. More priorities to set.

But what I can say, is THANK YOU.

Thank you to all of my wonderful clients who trusted me and my team to photograph their wedding stories, engagement stories, and other important moments in their lives. YOU are the reason that my season was so successful and YOU are the reason that I’m feeling so good about how this year is finishing up.
