Denver Botanic Gardens at Chatfield Picnic Wedding Styled Shoot
As part of the board of the Denver Photo Betties, I am part of the workshop planning brainpower. One of the major goals of the Betties is to give local photographs a chance to meet and network, while providing opportunities to grow as artists and the network of support needed in a challenging creative field. I certainly don’t have knowledge of every aspect of photography, but one thing I do know how to do is plan a styled shoot!

When there was interest in our group in the Betties hosting a styled shoot workshop, you know I was all over that one :) It was definitely a different beast, though, planning a shoot with (and for!) multiple photographers, and it would not have been possible without our AMAZING wedding planner, Ileen Hokeman of Once Upon a Wedding Events. Ileen came on board early on, when all we had was a concept and a pinterest board, and within two days she had a stash of props for our Denver Botanic Gardens at Chatfield Picnic Wedding inspiration.
Each of us involved in planning took on different aspects of contacts and then Ileen coordinated with all of our vendors to make sure everything was cohesive and spot on. I was so excited to be able to work with Jen from Anthologie Press again, and was super excited when a & be agreed to lend us the wedding dress and Denver Botanic Gardens at Chatfield came on board as our venue. Ileen pulled together the catering (Holli from DelishNola Catering) which was paired with a fabulous naked caramel cake from Leaf and Crumb Bakery. Another board member, Rayna (Rayna McGinis Photography) brought on Lilli from Bella Calla for florals, and Tina (Tina Joiner Photography) coordinated all of the models and the Hair and Make-up Artist, Danni Salazar. Katie (The Roaring Artist) provided the foot jewelry for our models. And the final awesome vendor? The Photo Love Bus. So cool.
Our adorable couple, Jenna and Jeremy fit the part of our relaxed picnic couple to a T and the bridal party, full of their friends, were awesome. While we were shooting, we worked in three groups, taking time to work individually with the couple, the bridal party, and to shoot details. It was definitely a challenge to shoot with so many photographers at once and it can be difficult to work your style into a shootout format, but the overall goals of the workshop was to help other photographers figure out how to host their own styled shoots, where they could work specifically on shooting for their brand. Hopefully they all came away with some valuable tips and tricks, and some gorgeous photos to boot!
As a photography group, we were so excited to see our shoot published today over on Rocky Mountain Bride today. The photos in the feature are a mix of photos from each photographer (curated by the blog) and its so awesome to see our hard work and effort pay off!
