Flowers on Medium Format Film Part 2| September 4, 2015

One of my business goals this year is to try to shoot one roll of medium format film at every wedding. I’m enjoying this process so far, focusing on using the camera for portraits alongside of my digital camera.

Your can follow along with my results on Film Fridays.

In this instance, I’m pretty happy with the color comparison between digital and medium format film.  However, the film photo was taken indoors with strong window light and the digital was taken outdoors in open shade.  There are just slight differences in tonality of the flowers, but overall, pretty similar and I’m very happy with both.

I did notice that the photos of the flowers outdoors are a bit more pastel in tone, which is beautiful in itself, but definitely different.

I’ll continue to experiment with flower photos over the coming season as I think that’s an easy platform to compare side by side, especially if I take them in similar lighting conditions.

I’m also really loving Fuji 400H, almost more than Portra 800.  Portra800 is really pretty, but I think I’m liking that Fuji has less grain.  I know a lot of film photographers love grain, but I’ve  never been a super fan.  I like the creamy colors and gorgeous bokeh you get, but grain isn’t high on my list of something I want to see a lot of.
