Goal #10 – Get a Massage

If there is one thing I love doing for self care, its gets getting a massage.  Unfortunately it’s been a once-a-year type of treat, as its a luxury that we haven’t prioritized, but I’m hoping that will change.

Towards the end of last wedding season, my body was struggling.  I LOVE shooting weddings, but by the end of a 10 hour day, my body is feeling it!  My back aches, my feet are tired, my shoulders are super tight from carrying my bag and holding a camera up to my face all day, and I’m ready to collapse on the couch and cuddle with the family for about 15 minutes before I’m ready to fall asleep.  Weddings take it out of you, no matter how much you love them.

As a treat when I wrapped up the wedding season in October last year, Heather gifted me a one-hour massage.  Its times like these when I absolutely KNOW I married the most amazing woman in the world.  She’d spent months rubbing out the kinks in my shoulders and listening to me talk about how good a massage would feel and she came back with the perfect present to celebrate the end of a successful season.

I actually didn’t end up getting my massage until February of this year.  There was no good reason for this, it just didn’t happen and I have no idea why I waited so long!  The 60  minutes went by way too quickly, but I enjoyed everyone blissfully relaxing moment to just breath, and be.

As we gear up for this coming wedding season, I’m promising myself that I’ll try to take a little better care of my body this year.  And that might include a few extra massages throughout.

What do you do for self care?
