Goal #44 Part 4 – One Heck of a Climb

Heather and I are big fans of the modern version of Hawaii Five-O.  While on our drive-around tour of Oahu, we passed the old tramway at Koko Head and got super excited because these exact ‘stairs’ had been featured on an episode ofHawaii Five-O.  We decided that we had to climb them while we were there.

The ‘stairs’ are actually an old tramway used by the military in the 1940’s to haul goods to a station at the top of Koko Head mountain.  Over 1000 wooden railway ties go straight up the mountain, so steep in parts that it felt like climbing a ladder.  The scariest part was going down over a steep section of the trail that is suspended over a gully.

We definitely got our workout in that day, but the 360 degree views at the top were quite the reward.  Now if only Steve McGarrett had been there to cheer us on.

The tramway from the bottom of the mountain, then again at the gully about half way up.

Halfway there!

Hot and sweaty at the top after an hour and half of climbing.

Now time to enjoy the view :)
