If you’ve been following along with the blog, you know that I’m on the hunt for the Best Local Cinnamon Rolls.
I suppose for any comparison to be fair, there need to be guidelines. So here are my top priorities when sampling cinnamon rolls:
- Is it warm?
- Is there a good cinnamon to bread ratio?
- Is the bottom burnt?
- Is the outside overcooked?
- Is the center still gooey?
- Is the icing cream cheese based?

I’m not sure if they always have cinnamon rolls on their menu, but I’ve certainly never noticed them before. I typically go for the pancakes and the blueberry cornbread when we visit the Super Mini Walnut Cafe, but on our last visit, in the bottom corner, I spied a cinnamon roll and knew I had to try it.
Cinnamon Roll Grade: B
Overall, this was a very respectable cinnamon roll. It met most of my criteria. It was warm, it had gooey bites, and the icing was cream cheese based. However, it was a little on the dry side–and I didn’t even end up with an end piece, but a roll that was cut from the center of the pan. The sprinkling of powdered sugar was a nice touch and cinnamon flavor was buttery and good, but I could have used with a little more. It had just a touch too much bread to it and not quite enough cinnamon.
Would I eat it again? Probably. But maybe not every time.
Yum! I love this guidelines. Can’t wait to see an A+ posting!
Oh my gosh I’m hungry now. What a fun and tasty adventure!
