Testing Fuji 400H Medium Format Film |Film Friday – September 11, 2015

One of my business goals this year is to try to shoot one roll of medium format film at every wedding. I’m enjoying this process so far, focusing on using the camera for portraits alongside of my amazing digital camera.

Your can follow along with my results on Film Fridays.

I chose to shoot Sarah and Dominic’s Deer Creek Valley Ranch wedding film photos with Fuji 400H film because of their color pallet. If you read or follow any film wedding photographers, you’ll hear tons of praise for the Fuji stock film because of the colors.  When you overexpose Fuji 400H the colors develop a very pastel look, not quite as much contrast or pop as the Porta 800, but still producing creamy skin tones.

As I’m still experimenting with film stocks (mostly Fuji 400H and Portra 800 at this point), I’m making my decisions mostly based on light and the colors that I’m  going to be shooting.  If I want a bolder look (like during our film fashion shoot), I like Portra 800.  If I want more saturated pastels or rich pinks and greens, I go for Fuji.  The blush bridesmaids skirts Sarah chose as well as the soft bouquet of neutral flowers screamed for me to choose Fuji 400H and I’m absolutely in love with the soft, dreamy feel these photos have.

Stay tuned for more shots from this wedding, and check out one of my absolute all time favorite medium format film shots, also from Sarah and Dominic’s wedding.
