Rainy Boettcher Mansion Wedding | Monica and Tom
Monica and Tom’s Rainy Boettcher Mansion Wedding was a completely soul-filling day. I don’t think the smiles of excitement left either of their faces all day, even when rain threatened their plans.
When I arrived at Boettcher Mansion, Monica and Tom were at the tail end of getting ready. I found Tom hanging out upstairs in the groom’s suite working on his tie. Monica and her bridesmaids were tucked away downstairs, laughing and dancing their way through their final preparations. By the time they were both fully ready, the rain was coming down.
Luckily, Monica and Tom both have an adventurous spirit, combined with a desire to make the most of any situation. So, we donned umbrellas and headed for the stone gazebo on the grounds of the mansion for their first look. After about 15 minutes, the rain started to clear, so we took advantage and headed to the lookout at the nearby Nature Center.
After some bridal party and family photos, we hustled back inside because the rain had started to come down again. Monica and Tom sat together in the window seat and watched the rain. With their heads together, they considered all of their options. Postpone the ceremony a few minutes and hope for the rain to break? Host cocktail hour before the ceremony? Get married inside? They carefully weighed all of the options, bouncing their thoughts off each other. Rebecca from Touch of Bliss supported their decisions in every way and when they made the call to wait for the rain to break, she coordinated the drying of the ceremony chairs.
Finally, Monica was walking down the aisle towards Tom.
I loved so much about their ceremony. Their vows were extremely personal and highlighted the key moments of growth and love in their 10 year relationship. And to top it all off, Monica’s sister serenaded the two of them with a song. Finally, the long awaiting first kiss as husband and wife! Then the emotion and excitement flowed as they headed indoors to exchange hugs with their family and bridal party.
We had the perfect light for sunset portraits, so we headed into the trees to take advantage of the magic. Then it was back to the cocktail party and reception. Monica and Tom listened to hilarious toasts by their friends, shared a first dance on the patio under the market lights, and ate donuts together. Then they tore it up on the dance floor until the last song “Ironic”, by Alanis Morisette, blasted on the DJ speakers. And on queue, the rain returned in time for their grand exit. So they dashed out the door to their awaiting getaway car to a shower of flower petals and cheers from their guest.
I seriously couldn’t have asked for a better group of people to spend my weekend with and I’m so honored to have been a small part of this beautiful celebration.
Congratulations Monica and Tom–you have amazing hearts and I can’t wait to see where life takes you together!
